PreviousApril 1971

Together with the celebrated mezzo-soprano Stefanie Irányi, the ensemble Amarcord Wien presents a programme dedicated to the tango legend Astor Piazzolla. Born 100 years ago in Mar del Plata, Argentina, he revolutionised traditional tango, which brought him worldwide fame and a popularity that continues unabated to this day.

The Ensemble Amarcord Wien presented an Astor Piazzolla programme at its debut in 2000, which is still an integral part of its repertoire. Together with mezzo-soprano Stefanie Irányi, they have now expanded the programme to include vocal works by the master, and from here they span the arc to grand opera. With arias from Verdi's "Troubadour" and Bizet's "Carmen", milestones of opera literature are on board.

The large orchestral score is arranged by the Ensemble Amarcord Wien in their usual refined manner and brought to the stage in pocket format, so to speak. Great opera in a handy form!
