ELEMENT OF CRIME have been playing their songs for 33 years. And they release their records, just as they imagine, one after the other. There is little comparable, no other German-speaking band that would bring this peculiar mixture of folk rock and blues, art rock and children's song, noise orgy and lard melody into the world without - as it seems - even thinking for a moment whether it fits in with the zeitgeist or not, whether it's suitable for new or old media, whether someone understands it, whether they understand it themselves, whether it's sad or funny, ugly or beautiful, profound or crazy.

At first glance, everything looks like refusal: They always refuse to do the same thing and they refuse to reinvent themselves. They like to adapt to the streaming and youtube landscape. They don't give up their music for advertising. They would rather play three times in the Tempodrom than once in the Max-Schmeling-Halle. They won't be nailed down and so on and so on, you could go on for a long time, but that can't be the secret of their success, those are all things that aren't done, but you're only loved for what you do, not for what you leave.

And so another picture of this band emerges: A band that has such an unmistakable style in terms of song, sound and attitude that you only have two possibilities: You can like it or not. ELEMENT OF CRIME are never just "somehow interesting" or "quite okay". And here we are with "Schafe, Monster und Mäuse" - the new album (release 5 October 2018). It has become a long, ultra psychedelic album, the longest in the history of the band. It's as if ELEMENT OF CRIME wanted to push the album format, for which this band was created from the beginning like no other, to the limit, maybe one last time, you don't know how it will go on, the world changes. But, and that's what's decisive: The songs stay.
