The “Great Austrian Songbook” sees itself as a bridge between the “Great American Songbook” and selected pieces, artists and movements in Austrian entertainment and popular music from the 19th to the 21st century. The Austrian jazz pianist Lukas Meißl achieved this cultural cross-over with his band, the “OSTstyrian Rhythm Section” (Maximilian Kreuzer, bass; Andreas Reisenhofer, drums). Fragments and motifs of well-known melodies were deconstructed and reconstructed and completely new compositions were created against the background of the Austrian musical tradition. Entirely embedded in the various varieties of jazz, Meißl demonstrates the colorfulness, versatility and timelessness of the Austrian ( Popular) music from Viennese songs to film music.

It happened at the time when Emperor Augustus... no, when Sun King Bruno - never mind - when tax lists appeared for the first time - because we can pay taxes - the drastic transformation of Homo sapiens sapiens took place through the lush expression of visceral fat in the middle of a snow-intensive ice age to Homo Austriacus. Even if the Ötzi (without the associated DJ) lies in between in terms of genealogy, the Ösi (!) is a specific feature of the local soil, in the middle of which lies “his” and “her” country (daughters and sons!), the outline of which resembles the breaded national dish . But: Who is this Homo Austriacus? A misanthrope who got up on the wrong foot to jump into the mud with the other? A conservative traditionalist who fears the foreign, but only as long as he doesn't know it? Or is Homo Austriacus a real Homo Faber, a creator, a “Schepfer”? The “Great Austrian Songbook” carefully (typically Austrian!) approaches a musical survey of Homo Austriacus and borrows from the “Great American Songbook”, whose repertoire (which is also not clearly defined) paved the way for jazz. PORGY & BESS Jazzclub
Porgy & Bess (actually, Jazz and Music Club Porgy & Bess ) is a jazz club in the Riemergasse 11 in the 1st district of Vienna. The club , founded in 1993 is considered " the most important jazz organizer and trendy meeting point " of the Austrian capital .
The program of Porgy & Bess speaks to a very large audience , about 70,000 guests a year ; is accordingly Jazz " understood very pluralistic ," and the program " even in fringe areas , such as electronic music , contemporary music and world music penetrated . " Many international artists , particularly from the U.S. space , see also Austrian musician here an opportunity to perform . The club also offers the stage for events, such as the award of the Austrian World Music Award.
