Gluck: Iphigénie en Tauride

It was a triumph! With the success of his Iphigénie en Tauride, the German Gluck prevailed in his place of work in Paris. Opera as an expression of "humanité": here Gluck struck a chord with the audience on the eve of the French Revolution. In order to explore psychological depths, the composer broke down traditional musical forms. The orchestra has a life of its own. The overture of Gluck's Iphigénie begins idyllically, before a thunderstorm erupts. Without a transition, the choir calls out to the gods, and the soloists answer. Such a courageous approach inspired not only the opera revolutionary Richard Wagner. Gluck's music continues to fascinate to this day.
