73rd Vienna Medical Doctors' Ball

HOFBURG VIENNA
The Vienna Medical Doctors' Ball, which has a firm place in the cultural calendar of the Austrian capital, always takes place on the last Saturday in January at the Vienna Hofburg and will be celebrated for the 73rd time in 2025.
The traditional ball, which will take place on 25 January next year and is known for its traditional charity character, is a firm institution of the Viennese ball season and will not only celebrate 200 years of Johann Strauss in 2025, but also for all those who need to find their way back to life.
Every year, the entire net proceeds of the Vienna Doctors' Ball go to a selected charitable initiative.

to the WE&ME Foundation.
Dress Code: Full-Length Ball Gowns for Women & Tails with White Tie for Men or Uniforms with Distinctions.
No-smoking policy
The general no-smoking in public areas of the tobacco law §13 applies to all premises of the Vienna Hofburg. There is therefore absuolutely no-smoking in all rooms (except outside in the limited area on the right of the main entrance). This also includes e-cigarettes and similar.
The house rules of the Hofburg are applicable.

Ball Orchestra Dr. Krisper
The "Ball Orchestra Dr. Krisper" conducted by the general practitioner Florian Krisper will play in the traditional Viennese 19th century line up which made Johann Srauß world-famous. The violinist is not only concert master and soloist in one but also conducts the orchestra which creates a special bond between orchestra and audience.

During this year's ball Carla Natascha & Salsa Band will bring a happy go lucky, Caribbean flair to the Hofburg. Her powerful voice, art of dancing and cheerfulness lure her audience with unbelievable charm into the world of hot Latino rhythms. Take a musical trip with Carla Natascha & Salsa Band - a group of well known musicians from around the world - to Latin America. Enjoy Salsa, Cha-Cha-Cha, Rumba, Bolero, Merengue, Cumbia etc. with Latin American hits and look forward to an unforgettable evening!

The Bling-Blings
"The Bling-Blings" are a live band that celebrates the diversity of musical styles and uses it to find the perfect mix of music for every generation.
The band consists of six professional musicians, with the lead singer and all the instrumentalists making great use of their microphones. This polyphony creates a full sound and the different lead voices allow for a great variety of repertoire.
In all this, of course, the joy of making music and of the music itself must not be missing, with which the band wants to infect and carry away all the dancing and listening people in the room.

Bandleader Gerhard Aflenzer:
The "Playing Captain" was born in Amstetten/NÖ in 1961 and conducts the band confidently from the 2nd trumpet desk. He began playing the trumpet at the age of 7. Later he studied jazz trumpet at the Vienna Conservatory. As a musician he has played with the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, Richard Österreicher Big Band, Teddy Ehrenreich Big Band, Wolfgang Lindner Band, among others. He is also active as a musician in various other formations.

Vienna Hofburg Kongreszentrum
The Kaiserball developed from the imperial tradition of the so called “Hofball” (court ball) and “Ball bei Hof” that were organized by the imperial couple Franz Joseph (1830–1916) and his wife Empress Elisabeth (1837–1898), who is better known as Sisi. Both ball events were taking place in the Hofburg being the imperial winter residence of the Habsburg family.
The Hofball used to take place towards the end of January, with Empress Elisabeth deciding the precise date. Once the court had gathered in the Zeremoniensaal - which is still one of the most stunning rooms at the Hofburg to this day- selected guests were invited to pay their respects to the Emperor and Empress in person. The popular buffet was set up in the nearby Grosser Redoutensaal. Meanwhile the dance floor was positively brimming with activity - after all some 2,000 ballgoers were in attendance. The last waltz commenced at exactly quarter past midnight, and drew this spectacular imperial event to an end.
The “Ball bei Hof” took place just two weeks later. This more intimate event, reserved for the ruling elite, drew around 700 high-ranking royals and members of the diplomatic corps. To qualify as "Hochadel" (higher nobility), aristocrats were required to demonstrate a lineage going back at least eight generations on both the maternal and paternal sides.The most valuable porcelain in the imperial dining service was unpacked for a formal dinner which was served in the Radetzky apartments and neighbouring rooms. The strict seating order was dictated by rank. Ladies spared no expense and took every care to ensure their appearance matched the occasion, happily parting with between 300 and 500 Gulden for an evening dress - more than the annual income of a court servant.
