"A time of the brave had begun, because one had to be brave everywhere — on the street, in parks, on playgrounds, in public transport, during the day, but especially when the sun went down."

In his new major novel, Dimitré Dinev explores the history of Europe and the central questions of human coexistence, creating a literary masterpiece of humanism and empathy. (Press text)

In 2005, the Bulgarian writer Dimitré Dinev, who lives in Vienna, presented his then-current work, also accompanied by the wonderful Wladigeroff Brothers. After two decades, the time has come for the master to present his new work, which is closely connected to the river that flows through Vienna, in the Danube metropolis — again musically framed by the proven team. A warm welcome! CH

Dimitré Dinev, born in 1968 in Bulgaria, attended the Bertolt Brecht High School in Plovdiv. From 1986, he published in Bulgarian, Russian, and German. Army service from 1987–89, fled to Austria in 1990. Since 1991, he studied philosophy and Russian philology in Vienna. Since 1992, he has written screenplays, translations, plays, and prose in German, receiving numerous awards and literary prizes. He lives as a freelance writer in Vienna.

Music runs in the blood of twin brothers Alexander and Konstantin, as their grandfather was the great Bulgarian composer Pancho Wladigeroff. Since the founding of their band, Alexander (known to many as the brilliant trumpeter from Fatima Spar and the Freedom Fries) and Konstantin Wladigeroff have played their way into the upper ranks of both national and international jazz scenes with their groovy mix of traditional Balkan songs, original compositions, European jazz, and classical elements. But beware of categorizing too quickly: their explosive, exhilarating blend never compromises quality. These two highly talented young musicians resist trendy or marketable labels as they adventurously explore musical possibilities. More as a critique of such mechanisms than as a tribute to their adopted home Vienna, their effortlessly virtuosic Balkan jazz even takes off in 3/4 time.
