Iowa

In 2022, Stefanie Sargnagel traveled to Iowa to teach a creative writing course at a small college in the heartland of America. She was accompanied by singer Christiane Rösinger. The resulting book landed at number one in the Austrian bestseller charts. That evening, they read from their shared experiences in the Midwest and reflect on their existence as feminist icons of different generations. They don't spare each other, they happily contradict each other, and they repeatedly find common ground in songs they sing together. The result is a cabaret-style reading show with melancholic chansons about life on the prairie.

Quirky and grandiose. ― Der Spiegel

A personal account and at the same time a witty political and artistic interim assessment. ― 3Sat "Kulturzeit"

It is also, and perhaps above all, the manifesto of a friendship for which there are hardly any precedents in cultural history. ...It warms your heart while reading. -- Adam Soboczynski

"Iowa" is among the funniest, smartest, and best things the book market has produced in recent weeks. -- Marie-Luise Goldmann ― Welt am Sonntag
