A cello legend on her lifelong journey with Bach

It was only two centuries after their composition that 13-year-old Pablo Casals discovered Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suites at a second-hand bookstore – it took another 35 years until his recording of the suites set a benchmark in the discography.

Cello legend Mischa Maisky once again set new standards with his award-winning interpretation. The Lithuanian-born musician fell in love with the works when his brother gave him a music edition in 1959. “Work on them as much as you can, your whole life long, to be worthy of this great music,” he wrote on the title page. Known for passionate interpretations and intense musical expression, Maisky will perform all six suites over two evenings.
