SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER - COMPAGNIA DELLA RANCIA | Musical
Duration: approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes including intermission
Saturday Night Fever, the musical, produced under license from Broadway Licensing, is inspired by the 1977 Paramount/RSO film as well as the story of Nik Cohn, the English writer who explored new trends in nightlife and the disco scene, featuring the captivating soundtrack by the Bee Gees. The direction draws on the immersive shots of the 1977 film, including the unforgettable tracking shot with a young John Travolta, bringing freshness and contemporary relevance to the story of Italian-American Tony Manero, a character who defined a generation. On stage, 21 performers bring the legendary hits of the Bee Gees to life. From Stayin’ Alive and Night Fever to You Should Be Dancing and How Deep Is Your Love, these worldwide disco hits also symbolize the culture of the 1970s, anthems of freedom, courage, and the fight against marginalization. Some song lyrics were translated by Franco Travaglio, while the pieces accompanying the scenes set in the 2001 Odyssey are performed in English.
The musical follows the film’s plot: Tony works in a paint store and leads a monotonous life during the week, but on Saturday night he becomes the “king” of the 2001 Odyssey nightclub, admired by all for his style and incredible dancing skills. The story explores self-discovery, youthful ambitions, family and social tensions, and the desire for redemption, all set against the vibrant disco scene of the 1970s. With dreams of a better life away from Brooklyn, Tony sees dance as his escape. Meeting Stephanie Mangano, determined and ambitious, who wants to move to Manhattan to build her career, marks a turning point for both. Together, they decide to enter a dance competition that could change their destiny.
