Wednesday, 3 December 2025 – 20:30

The Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theatre, originally known as the Imperial Theatre and founded in 1851, is one of the oldest in Eastern Europe. Under the direction of Nina Ananiashvili, former principal dancer of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the company has toured internationally in Japan, China, Taiwan, Israel, Egypt, Estonia, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Ecuador, Oman, Dubai, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Italy, where it is particularly admired for its academic rigor and interpretation of the great classics of the tradition.

The Sleeping Beauty is a ballet with a prologue composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1889. The second of the Russian composer’s three ballets, it represents a cornerstone of the classical repertoire and, with a duration of 160 minutes, is also his second-longest work. The original libretto, inspired by Charles Perrault’s La belle au bois dormant (The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood), was prepared by Ivan Vsevolozhsky, while the choreography was created by Marius Petipa in the version now presented in Modena by the Georgian ballet company. The premiere took place at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg on 15 January 1890. Since then, The Sleeping Beauty has remained one of the most famous and beloved ballets of all time.
