The show is an Italian 2024 production of Tootsie, a musical inspired by the 1982 film of the same name starring Dustin Hoffman and directed by Sidney Pollack, ranked by the American Film Institute as one of the greatest comedies of all time. The music and lyrics are by David Yazbek, winner of Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Awards, and author of acclaimed Broadway productions such as The Band’s Visit and The Full Monty. Hailed as “Broadway’s new funniest musical!” (The New York Post), Tootsie received 11 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. The Italian edition, starring Paolo Conticini, known for successes such as Mamma Mia! and The Full Monty, was a major success, selling 10,000 tickets for its debut at Teatro Sistina in Rome. The plot follows Michael Dorsey, a talented actor unable to hold a steady job, who risks everything to achieve his dreams: he auditions disguised as a woman under the name Dorothy Michaels, and thanks to a brilliant performance, lands the role. This begins a rapid rise to fame, turning Dorothy into one of Broadway’s most beloved actresses.
