It was on the island of Réunion that Thom Poirier began his musical training. Admitted to the Regional Conservatory, he obtained a Diploma of Musical Studies (DEM) in piano in 2016 with Highest Honors and the unanimous congratulations of the jury, and at the same time earned a scientific baccalaureate with Highest Honors, while also developing a passion for musical writing and composition, which he studied independently. He then had the opportunity to meet the pianist and teacher Marie-Claude Equoy, with whom he worked for two years during this period. He continued his training in the Paris region, first at the Regional Conservatory of Boulogne-Billancourt. There he studied piano with Nicolas Mallarte in an advanced cycle, obtained a DEM in musical analysis with Highest Honors with Naji Hakim, and received guidance from Aline Bartissol in chamber music as well as from Marie-Paule Siruguet in vocal accompaniment, lied, and melody. He also studied musical writing and keyboard harmony with Isabelle Duha and Matthieu Balanant at the Niedermeyer Regional Conservatory in Issy-les-Moulineaux, where he obtained a DEM in writing with Highest Honors and the congratulations of the jury.
In 2019, Thom was admitted to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in the piano class, as well as in the Advanced Writing Program, where he currently holds the first three prizes in Harmony, Counterpoint, and "Fugue and Forms" (Thierry Escaich's class). He is currently pursuing his first year of a Master's degree in piano in Hortense Cartier-Bresson's class, deepening his knowledge of writing through the study of orchestration, has studied musical analysis with Yves Balmer, and also practices piano accompaniment with Jennifer Fichet. Passionate about both the solo repertoire (particularly the music of J.S. Bach, which he especially cherishes) and the role of collaborative pianist, he regularly has the opportunity to perform, combining these two approaches, such as at the "Young Talents" festival at the Museum of Fine Arts, a performance in the Grand Salon des Invalides, and vocal recitals with soprano Aniana Malalaharisoa.
Having been passionate about philosophy since high school, and placing interdisciplinarity and the interactions between different disciplines at the heart of his studies, his thinking, and his research, he is currently completing a Master's degree in Philosophy offered through the distance learning program at the University of Paris-Ouest Nanterre.
