A Royal Musical Cruise with the Residence-Soloists

The Residenz-Solisten invite you on a very special journey aboard the MS Starnberg on Lake Starnberg, taking you back to the era of the Wittelsbach rulers.

On this scenic cruise, the focus is on the “Royal Water Music.” In the excellent acoustics of the main-deck salon, the Residenz-Solisten perform masterworks by composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonio Vivaldi, and George Friderich Handel—composers who were beloved and patronized by the Bavarian ruling family. While enjoying a carefully curated three-course meal with drinks, guests are entertained with fascinating stories about the historical connections between the Wittelsbachs and Lake Starnberg.

The MS Starnberg, with its three decks, was modeled on the grand ceremonial ship “Bucentaurus.”This blue-and-gold vessel, built for the Bavarian Elector Ferdinand Maria, was considered the largest and most beautiful rowing ship ever on a German inland waterway. Inspired by the state barge of the Doges of Venice, it was propelled by 150 rowers in 1664 to offer the elector and his entourage a lavish evening on the lake.

The cruise with the Residenz-Solisten is a homage to these historic journeys and has been a highlight of the summer concert season for 15 years. The experience includes a welcome glass of champagne, three concert segments, an exquisite three-course meal with drinks, engaging historical storytelling, and a spectacular fireworks display to conclude the evening.
