WALTZ CONCERT
with the SOLOISTS OF THE VIENNA PHILHARMONIC
2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Strauss Jr.!
In his honor, our program will consist exclusively of music by the “Waltz King” when the soloists of the Vienna Philharmonic traditionally present their waltz concert in the Theater im Park.
Johann Strauss Jr. was 73 years old and left behind more than 500 works. In addition to his stage works, above all the outstanding “The Bat” and many others, it is the great waltzes that are associated with his name and are, in the truest sense of the word, immortal. The Philharmonic ensemble will be performing, among other charming polkas, the famous Tales from the Vienna Woods, Viennese Blood, Artists' Life, the Spring Voices Waltz and, as usual, the crowning finale, the Blue Danube Waltz . Cornelia Horak
is a particularly charming vocal soloist : she shines with the Csardas and Prince Orlofsky's couplet , two of the most famous numbers from Die Fledermaus , as well as with the charming “Grüss dich Gott, du liebes Nesterl” from the operetta Wiener Blut. Johann Strauss composed three enchanting romances for a Russian countess he greatly admired. Solo cellist Franz Bartolomey particularly enjoyed these romances and played them often: his son Matthias will play one of them in memory of his father, who died last year. Just like the message of the popular and globally broadcast “Grand” New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic, all participants understand the concert as a message of peace for the audience in a time of great unrest and uncertainty.
