Synopsis/Details

This exhibition is a breathtaking multimedia spectacle that presents the world-famous works of Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) in a way never seen before: “Van Gogh – The Immersive Experience”. The artist’s paintings are magnified several times over using elaborate lighting installations and projections, bringing them to life on the walls of the exhibition rooms.

Masterful art meets cutting-edge technology – a symbiosis that will carry Van Gogh’s genius into a new era and make it unforgettable. This interactive art experience has already captivated over 12 million visitors worldwide in cities such as London, Paris, New York, Barcelona and Berlin.

The Man Who Changed the World

Vincent van Gogh

The Dutch painter and draughtsman Vincent van Gogh (30 March 1853 – 29 July 1890) is considered one of the founders of modern art. He created nearly 900 paintings and more than 1,000 drawings. Van Gogh led a turbulent life and lived in many different cities. His works are characterised by intense colours, expressive brushstrokes and profound emotional depth. He only became world-famous after his premature death at the age of just 37. Today, he is regarded as one of the most influential Impressionist artists in history.

The Breathtaking Explosion of Colour in Van Gogh’s Works…

makes art more tangible to viewers than ever before through an immersive experience!

In a multimedia light installation, visitors immerse themselves in Van Gogh’s works and experience the illusion as reality. Oversized projections, video animations and emotive melodies bring the paintings to life, revealing every detail. Masterpieces such as “Sunflowers”, “The Starry Night” and “Bedroom in Arles” appear from a new perspective. “Van Gogh – The Immersive Experience” offers fascinating insights into the creation of his most famous works and explores the life of the artist, born in 1853 – from his time in a monastery to the mysterious letters he wrote to his brother. A 360-degree multimedia journey through time, exploring the history of one of the greatest geniuses of the past two centuries!

The exhibition’s other sections offer an even deeper exploration of Van Gogh and his art. Among other things, visitors will find a digital study of his flower paintings, a video documentary about his painting techniques, and a room recreating the setting of his famous painting “The Bedroom”.

A Day in the Life of the Artist

Experience Virtual Reality

At the end of the journey, the Virtual Reality (VR) Experience* takes visitors even deeper into the artist’s life. Take a seat, put on the VR headset and discover eight of his world-famous works and their sources of inspiration through Van Gogh’s eyes: Vincent’s room in Arles, the meadows, the forest, the village and the Starry Night over the Rhône…

The VR Experience is not included in the ticket price.

Art Meets Cutting-Edge Technology

What Does the Term “Immersive” Mean?

The technology behind this unique art experience was developed from the ground up by lighting experts. In an “immersive experience”, viewers become immersed in a multimedia illusion of images and sound, perceiving it as completely real – made possible by an innovative 3D mapping projection system. This new technology makes it possible to project not only onto flat surfaces but also to display graphics, animations, images and videos on three-dimensional objects. Buildings, mountains, trees, cars, roads and much more become projection surfaces. Combined with perfectly synchronised music and sound effects, this creates a breathtaking atmosphere.
