The St. Laurenzen Church is the Evangelical Reformed parish church in the city of St. Gallen. The construction of the first church is estimated in the middle of the 12th century. The church was the political, religious and social center of the city republic of St. Gallen for almost three hundred years and has had a lasting impact on the history of the city. Even today it is the meeting place for the local citizens of the city. The church takes its name from the martyr Lawrence of Rome, to whom it was consecrated. It is classified as a building worthy of national protection (highest of the three protection levels) and, as a monument of national importance, is therefore under federal monument protection.
