Mira Lu Kovacs & Clemens Wenger 'Sad Songs To Cry To' (A)

Mira Lu Kovacs (5K HD, My Ugly Clementine) and Clemens Wenger (5/8erl in Ehr’n, JazzWerkstatt Wien) fully devote themselves to sadness. Is there anything more longing, more craving than sad songs you can immerse yourself in, swim in, and drown? Songs in which you wallow until sadness completely takes you in, demanding relentlessly until finally, it lets go. Door open, monster in. Monster rages, monster leaves.

Besides some original compositions, the duo reinterprets a selection of well-known songs from pop history, from “Get Lucky” (Daft Punk) through melancholic jazz classics like Chet Baker’s “I’m Old Fashioned” to German-language songs like “Halt dich an deiner Liebe fest” (Rio Reiser). (Press text)

Mira Lu Kovacs belongs to a generation of Austrian musicians who have brought a new quality to domestic (pop) music. This is partly thanks to her musical background—trained in classical, jazz, and electronic music—but above all to the free spirit of the singer. Virtuosity and intuition in instrument and voice, countered by lyrics sometimes pushed to their limits in directness, meet in her with the courage to carry existing pop appeal into the future with a certain quirkiness. In recent years, she has built a rich place in the memory of music lovers both on and off the stage.
